I'm trying not to get too worked up over the crappy conditions but wow. We can't even have some old soft snow sitting around on N faces, it has to get blown down to New Mexico with strong N winds. Ski conditions are insanely bad right now. -
^^^ My first year in CB was '93-'94, just to totally date myself, which is fine because most of the TRG is old now too. It was a mediocre season but I'd go the North Face lift every day at noon, which wasn't open yet, and a guide would give me a beacon and we would go out and ski pow wherever they...Leave a comment:

I was there one time when I could chew the air in SLC. Tasted like chewing aluminum foil. It was scary to cross the street since you couldn't see the other side of the road through the smog....Leave a comment:

Hey, it could be worse. There could be no snow and you could also be dying a very slow death breathing the air in smog lake city👍 1Leave a comment:

That's how I typically roll, especially here in Crested Butte. I was loving my new skis on the manmade, but they are definitely staying on the rack for a while now that steeper runs are open with barely any cover. And I haven't even mounted the other pair, I doubt they'll even make it out this season...Leave a comment:

I started off the year with brand new skis for the first time in years which was great on the icy manmade. but now I'm on rock skis that are literally missing chunks of edge and sidewall. Terrifying on the groomers, but the right tool for the job for hate skiing rocks.😂 1Leave a comment:

This is what I could see coming in a post I made upthread, this one didn't have the near universal support that Park City did.
Hopefully this doesn't provide a blueprint for owners going forward. Instead of half assing an opening like PC/Vail did, I bet more owners will play hardball...Leave a comment:

Lots of terrain openings lately in CB, almost feels like winter.
Skis are just boot protectors anyway.

Snowing pretty good here, 4" and counting which counts as a giant win this season.Leave a comment:

Dang. Not that surprising given the temps, but still. The worst part is that they're probably all going to Lake City since that's been open for weeks and they'll realize how rad and huge that park has become....Leave a comment:

Not speaking about Mali's project (which was cool because I love objective list projects) in particular but, I'd love to see the FKT fad go away. I get the desire to push yourself, but FKTs are about how many corners can be cut as much as anything else. Whether you're talking actual corners like the...👍 2Leave a comment:

I guess I should be overjoyed at the 6" in 48 we got in CB. Some of the bump runs like Twister have been open sporadically. The snotel graphs show 2018 as being significantly worse than this year, but the rain events and warm temps doesn't make it feel that way at all. It doesn't help that this...Leave a comment:

This one feels a lot different than Park City already. Park City had the huge lines, new snow but no terrain, and the scabs were making mistakes that were shared online. Everyone was lining up against Vail.
But with all of Telluride shut down, I've been seeing a lot more grumbling and...Leave a comment:

This year is going to be so interesting for the snow nerds. How thick is that rain crust going to be, and how high does it go? And will a bunch of facets develop above and below it? Of course it needs to actually snow a little bit first to actually matter.👍 1Leave a comment:

Well, merry Christmas everyone. I, for one, didn't think that it would actually rain on Christmas day at 9400'. Wet snow, maybe, but not rain. But that's rain out there, maybe all the way up to treeline judging by the temps on the CAIC's weather station page....Leave a comment:
