I think that's a good choice.
I have a p1s and it does everything I ever really wanted and with minimal fuss. It even prints abs/Asa super well.
I also agree that an AMS is totally worth the cost, even if you aren't doing multi filament work. It's just so easy to keep a few...

So what's the deal with the "improved" adjustment range on these? Is it additional on each side of center, mostly towards the shorter side, or mostly towards the larger bsl?

It definitely pays to be flexible if possible, the weather (and snowfall) east/west of Roger's pass can be wildly different.
It might also be worth doing kicking horse instead of Revy one way if the snow has been good, even if you have to pay for a day.
