What do people like for a tune on the R110s? Same as the FRs? -

I have some slightly older Maestrales that are in excellent shape with unused liners I could give you for shipping $, but better see if they'd fit first. I don't know how they compare with the Quattro in terms of fit. They'd be far less stiff than the Quattro....Leave a comment:

Never skied on AK, but FWIW for heavy shitty snow in the Sierra I'm definitely a fan of flat or slight reverse camber skis without much sidecut, but hardly anyone is making them anymore. VW katana as mentioned, BMT108, some heritage labs offerings (none produced this year I think).

+1 for skimo packs, I also use mine in the spring whenever I can get away with it. I wish all pack makers would integrate the crampon pocket and ski carry systems from these packs, it's awesome not to have to take them off ever.

I've done the snow pile thing, but it's probably a good idea to pack up things like your sleeping bag before leaving so it doesn't get wet from condensation. This was just a one night trip where we skied out the next day and picked up the tent on the way out.

I did this for my parther's vipecs last year using ASA and they've been fine so far, but admittedly haven't seen heavy use. I think you just want to use a fairly tough material and high fill and preferably one that's not too brittle at low temps.

I guess my thought is that early season might mean lots of sharks and crap, so the release characteristics of the vipec have some chance of preventing an injury. Who knows how much that actually matters in practice though....Leave a comment:

I think that's a good choice.
I have a p1s and it does everything I ever really wanted and with minimal fuss. It even prints abs/Asa super well.
I also agree that an AMS is totally worth the cost, even if you aren't doing multi filament work. It's just so easy to keep a few...Leave a comment:
