Blackouts are the new winners. That is insane.

KW traffic backed up as far as I can see. In both directions. Gonna be a busy day.

Based on the number of cars already in valley at KW it is gonna be a busy day.
Blackouts are by far the best days to ski.
Expect long lines at chair 5 and timber creek.

Have the backside runs been softening in the afternoon? Shave a friends headed out next week and writing him a little guide to get around. Trying to figure the right time to go grab a grilled cheese

From the vids, looks like they were invented for folks you can not lay a carve.
Swivel, point and shoot skiing followed by more swivel as you lean back to lift the tips out of the snow. Ugly skiing.

Looks like a good day out there. 10 folks lined up at chair 6 at 8:45. Fresh snow, cold and sunshine.

I thin the OP was asking about a year ago.
I was there the other day as well. Like the 28th-30th, before the rectnt snow, it was skiing excellent. Well covered low tide super fun with some fresh and plenty of buff. Would ski again.Leave a comment:

Sweet. Stoke.
I too love a thin base at KW. So many fun lines. Just enough snow to fill routes and so many little secret zones that take a while to track out because so few know the entrances until they fill in

Well said. Thank you. Professions or not, what we learn and experience along the way seems to be the point.

They broke it while trying to re-tent the structure that was supposed to be temporary and replaced with an actual lodge a decade ago. The plan is to fix it and keep the tent there.
Made me think about Powdorks comment about embarrassment and not opening 10. They didn't and they were not...Leave a comment:

^^^^ I've found most breaks in Hawaii are more mellow than one might expect. Especially if you paddle out and act respectfully. Like watching a few sets from he channel before trying to catch any, not dropping in on folks and waiting for your turn in a line up. You can not be too timid, but it helps...Leave a comment:

Rain just turned to snow at 7800'. Big wet flakes. Guessing this won't last and it will be rain again soon enough, but nice to see the flakes.

And today was thicker yet. Still fun.

Backside opened yesterday to no fanfare. Ski right on to chairs 2 and 4. No one around to even make a line for fresh snow. Backside was decent to good. Thunder Saddle side was excellent up top and a tad heavy down low.
I noticed yesterday that the snow in the trees was heavier than the...Leave a comment:

KW has been skiing well and empty. Even the crowded chairs had no lines. 10 has been skiing well and rumors of 4 tomorrow. New terrain will be fun. My kid and I traversed from our lunch rock into whiskey zone below the closure to get fun untracked on high whiskey. The top is closed from the lift but...Leave a comment:

I feel that was the norm 15-20 years ago. Seasons that started with an insta-base. Sometimes it was a five foot dump. Others only two but the first 18" fell over three days as slush and oozed into every nook and cranny, then it turned colder for the last 6" and some how ended up soft boot...Leave a comment:

Plenty we can talk about, no? As for rumors, KW is to expand Terran off 6 and open 11. If all goes well. Unfortionaltely we are delayed and heading up tonight. Someone must have some more pics to share....Leave a comment:
