  • Pivot does SuperBoost+ in the rear, which I'm pretty sure requires a different crank spindle length to meet the right chainline (I know when shopping for cranks I've seen versions meant for SB+). I'm guessing previous owner did some parts swapping from another bike to it without knowing what he was...

By some miracle, I didn't get hit with any tariffs on my package from Germany. FedEx delivery email said my shipment was delivered by Jesus, so maybe it was divine intervention. ?

Back in early August, I bought a part for my Bosch ebike from a shop in Germany because I couldn't find it anywhere in the US, and even so, the price plus shipping to the US was cheaper (~$260) than any US stores were listing if they actually had any in stock (~$320-350 + tax). Keep in mind this was...

  • If anyone's trying to decide between the Dakine trail builder pack and the EVOC Trail Builder 35, I'll plug the EVOC. I had the Dakine that was given to me by the local trail org, but he asked for it back because his one's zippers failed. He offered to replace it with either another Dakine or the...

It won't be in that roundup, but I'd add in Maxxis High Roller 3. I've been running it as a summer loose tire, but it should work great in the wet too. Not as spiky as a Shorty or Argotal and rolls a bit faster. Oh and it still has beefy side knobs if you need to corner on something hard. Argotal...

Just food for thought: if & when you replace the shock, you can put a 205x65mm shock on their (5mm longer stroke) to make it ~162mm rear. That's what I did. There's still about a finger's thickness gap between the seatstay bridge and the back of the seat tube at full bottom out, and the reservoir...

I had one several years ago when I owned a v1 Sentinel. They're fine but nothing special compared to so many good retail offerings now. I think their target demographic is people willing to pay more to have a shock arrive with a card telling them what settings to use based on a survey they filled...

  • Might be asking the sales rep for those programs what sort of data metrics they give you as the business also. Could be helpful to see stuff like a breakdown of rental utilization by frame size, or by model. Or identify demand peaks so you could charge more on them.

Yeah, you don't want any oil or lube on the fork stanchions because it will attract dust and cause damage. What you can do is flip the bike up on its rear wheel before the ride for like 30 sec (or store it hanging on wall) so that the internal oil drains down and lubricates the bushings and seals.

  • I've rented bikes from the Santa Cruz factory, The Hub in Pisgah, and Sports Basement in the Bay Area, and they all used the same program. In my receipt from The Hub it said "powered by Bike Rent", not sure if that's the same as Bike Rental Manager. It was adequate, gave options to request...

I bump the mode switch all the time when I take off my full-face and hang it on the bars at the top. If I was one of those guys who pedals up with it off, I could see that being a real problem. If I was smarter, I'd hang my helmet on the right side instead, but for some reason I never do.

Thanks for the input. I'm guessing this guy will need to go down to 1 or 2 - not a very aggressive rider. I'm surprised you like the Float X. It felt like crap when I was bouncing on it trying to help him get it sorted - constipated was the word that came to mind. A buddy said he hated his bike...

For you guys who have stock Vala builds, how far off were the Santa Cruz pressure settings for you? A buddy just got one, and pressures seemed way off. Like he wasn't using more than 2/3 of travel even on huck to flats. He weighs 165 lbs, we dropped the fork to 90 and shock to 180 and it got better...

Yeah I was meaning to link that manual to you to see if it would help, but got distracted/busy. From what I recall, the little silver limit piece (with the other half of the alignment mark) sometimes slides out of place before you get everything torqued down. Sounds like you figured that out and got...
