This. It doesn't come into play most of the time, but there are scenarios where it can matter. There are a few tight, steep bermy switchbacks on our local trails where I am able to lean the bike over so far that my bottom hand is literally in the grass of the uphill side of the corner. When I see...

Running too wide of bars limits how far over you can lean the bike over. If you think about it, the rider leans their body over a certain amount, but the bike even more. If the bars are wider and the hands are at the ends of them (and arm length remains fixed), the rider can't push the low side bar...

I'd just add an extra 0.5mm or 1mm spindle spacer on the non-drive side, since if you add it there it will just reduce how much you have to turn the preload ring and not affect the chainline. The important thing is to match the chart on the drive side.

  • Yeah, I didn't love the gift my wife got me, so I asked if we could return it and I ordered a Makita battery powered chainsaw instead. I'm so fucking over hand-sawing hard-as-fuck eucalyptus. This latest storm littered our trails with fallen trees, and it's too much for 1 or 2 guys to respond to....
