Thread page number links

This has been bugging me for a while now. Why are the page links under the thread title numbered 1,2,3,4,5...10 instead of 1...8,9,10?

Say you're following a thread that is on page 9. A few new posts and it's on page 10. To get back to the last unread post, now you have to go to the last page and then click back to where you left off. Once you've read page 2-5, it's not really necessary to have a quick link to go back to them.

Yes. I endorse this thread. It's not really that big of a deal but it bugs the shit out of me.
