There is a very good chance our family will be traveling to Italy for the Paralympics in 2026. We are hoping to get moving on lodging sooner than later, 1/2 board has worked well for us in the past. Just getting started researching the area. Not sure if its going to be better to commute to the events or stay in Cortina? The collective has been great in the past for Euro info, any advice about the Cortina area would be greatly appreciated.

I was there 18 years ago on a group trip. I can't for the life of me remember where we stayed but Cortina is pretty cool and a nice place to spend a few days. Maybe look into an Air BNB. Air BNB wasn't around when I was there

I stayed in the Hotel Cortina a few years ago - central location in the pedestrian area, comfortable rooms, good breakfasts, fun bar, and most of all, amazing, helpful and knowledgeable staff that spoke impeccable English

Hotel Cortina looks incredible but unfortunately a little on the pricey side. Looking into Air BNB as well. Any other info would be greatly appreciated.

I have only been in Cortina d'Ampezzo long enough to change buses (I was going to a smaller valley (Sexten) and took a bus from Venice airport to Cortina, then onward). It's gonna be a nice walkable ski town though expensive. The roads around there are all small and windy mountain roads, so my instinct would not be to try commuting from another place if it's only saving a modest amount of money.

One of the older Italian guys in our group said of Cortina, "Too many VIPs," but he pronounced it as a word, rhymes with "zips." I thought this was evocative and hilarious and stored it away for future use. Expect something like maybe Aspen: I don't have any knowledge of hotels/lodging but would guess they are all somewhat nice and rather pricey.

Dunno if you are planning to ski beyond spectating, but in my experience, the Dolomiti Superski pass was an amazing deal. For just a little more than a regular day pass, and way less than a day at a US area, you can ski from town to town, connecting routes and lifts. We tried to ski the loop around the Marmolada (all on marked pistes, not touring) and got maybe 1/3rd of the way around it because we didn't leave enough time and I and others were slow. Incredible scenery. I still don't know how we got back to the car.

^^^^thanks. We are definitely planning on skiing. Still trying to figure out if skiing somewhere else will be less of a zoo and if we can squeeze in a guided day.
As far as VIP/Asspen Cougar Hunting Types……we felt Zermatt was this kind of place and preferred Saas Fee ten fold.

Fuciade is not accessible from lifts.

It's known for seafood. Get a reservation if you want to eat a full meal. But the view of the Sella Group is terrific and I prefer to sit outside and order raw bar/snacks/sandwiches.

Thanks for all the info. After getting into the lodging pricing we decided to wave off on in person support for our ripper, just won another event too[emoji7]. We decided to go to Japan instead????.
