For 80, or squalpine? I know a guy who'd know the answer for 80 if you're interest in the last 10-15 years. Specifically he'd know every time Caltrans reported 80 closed (or 50 or 88), which is slightly different than how long it was closed. Caltrans doesn't always update their reports accurately.

Skiing was good today. Light snow that required several tracks before it felt skied. Roads were winter driving conditions.

fomofo's video is awesome. Thanks. I forget the glorious days driving on I-80. Parked on the freeway for hours, having snowball fights, making sled runs, sending someone on foot to learn why it's stopped. And those Donner Pass snowshoe guys are the best antidote to weather hoopla - "yep, another day in the mountains"

As of 740P it's still snowing hard here and the winds if anything have picked up, both at my house and on top of OV per the NWS. One thing I'm sure about--if it does ease up by morning there will be a lot of people bitching that everything isn't open at 9.

S@T already called it for tomorrow. Even on the web cams, the drifts look impressive.

I just drove my sis to RNO from Carson. Washoe Valley was full value. 2/10, do not recommend, especially with the oblivious Utard driving with no tail lights. He even ignored me when I pulled aside and rolled down my window, then continued on 50 to the lake. I hope he doesn't kill someone. There were plenty of cars spun out along the road and in the median.Click image for larger version

Word, per my informant, is that they aren't even trying to clear the parking lot and that it's a mess. Who knows.... ?

The two roads aren't related like that in any way. Each road has multiple sections that each has their own CalTrans Maintenance Station and very delineated responsibilities. Carson Pass will open tomorrow most likely. The spur usually takes longer

Possibly January of 2017. That’s when we all started skiing off our roofs.

Just got some pics of 80 over the pass. 1 lane wide. This is definitely feeling like '11 or '17.

My buddy in Serene has about a 8' plow berm behind his truck. He's going to be there a while. I've been telling him for years to buy a blower. I bet he re-thinks if he needs one after this. Never make bets about Mitzi keeping your driveway clear during a storm.

I was planning to drive my wife to the airport in Reno tonight. The return trip could be a nightmare depending on if /when they open 80.

The line at KT is forming. Which of you are in it???

Dang you weren't kidding on the line forming on KT. Hope they all got their beacons on and packing shovels and probes. I'll be glued to those webcams all day should be wild.

I’m supposed to be flying into Reno on the 14th and splitting time between heavenly (staying at the gondola) and palisades.

bringing two pairs of skis. Moment meridians and was planning to bring some chipotle blades. I know a lot can change in 10 days conditions wise but am I crazy for wanting to bring the blades with me? Don’t have tons of days on them so just wanted to have some fun.

Watch the forecast. 10 days from now looks like clear weather. But you never know. Snow gets packed down pretty quickly these days. And why not check out Kirkwood one day?

ya the forecast looks decent till then. Seems sunny as shit while I’ll be out there too with warm temps.

Squaw was the first place I ever saw snow or skied as a little kid. So just holds nostalgic place in my heart so i try to do at least a day over there. Staying at heavenly village on a hotel employee rate right at the gondola so was going to maximize time there rather than driving elsewhere since I have the easy access.

South Lake Tahoe also had some fun with its snow removal program, allowing the public to nominate and vote on names for 10 of its snowplows in December, just before snow season arrived. The winning names displayed on the plows in colorful circular emblems, include (in order): The Big LePlowski, Plowy McPlowface, Scoop Dog, Snowbi Wan Kenobi, Darth Blader, Sled Zeppelin, Clearopathra, Sleetwood Mac, Austin Plowers and Snowbacca.
