IIRC, You are in some type of school administration or a teacher. I'm not trying to shit down your throat. I think our schools do a good job, particularly our local schools. As a tradesman, I would love to see more emphasis on skilled trades rather than the "every kid needs to go to college" mentality. No man in my family has graduated college. We have all, back to my grandfather, run very successful businesses. My brother, probably the most successful, got his GED his sophomore year of high school.
My son has missed 6 days of school this year because of a mix of a few vacation days that he couldn't make up and delayed start days that landed on ski team days (I apologize for not bringing him to school for 40 minutes). The threatening truancy notices are a joke. He tests at the next grade up in math and above average in English. What are they going to do? Kick him out of school?
My brother is playing the same game with his kid's school in the bay area. His response has been to threaten back with enrolling him in private school. They're at a stalemate.
Regardless, I never said that our schools are doing a bad job or that I thought that I could do it better. I do think that some of the priorities are warped and could be re-evaluated.
