I remember a 54" overnight in 2017 or 2018. Took me 3-4 hours to get out of the driveway. Squaw closed at ~1:30pm.

And a 48" overnight in 2009. The road at our house in Meyers wasn't plowed. I just gunned it and plowed the road. Luckily it wasn't far to 50. Made it to Heavenly and it was a ghost town.

Is it true in Japan that they don’t record/report snow that falls during the night? This is my first attempt to confirm this “fact.”

Today was a crazy wild mix. We skied full corn conditions off Sherwood and cold chalk off KT.

Let's get this storm started and see where we land.

I'm getting some entertainment from the PT Driven App. Those parents are dead set on getting their kids on the mountain this weekend...

I'm expecting some quality time in a tractor.

looking at a spring break sqawlpine option; kid wants to see where gnar went down
have no idea what the daily drive to the hill is like...
what's it like staying in Truckee or Tahoe or ___ in terms of getting to the hill each day? is there a beat the crowd race to the hill?
how is mid-week (but nevertheless spring break) parking? free/paid options? carpool reqts? [def not premium lot]
ideally we'd just stay in the village & not drive while there, but pretty sure that's our price point...

thx for any advice to a 1st time tourist to your hill

Well I made it up last night. Didn’t want to risk it tonight. Currently in Carson City, trying to decide if I think it’ll be possible to make it to Squaw early Saturday morning or not. Could take 50->28, or 80 to 89.

Seems likely that Alpine and Won’t even open Saturday until late if at all

                      Stay in the village.
                      Walk onto lifts
Drink in that Gnar vibe without driving.
Bonus points if your condo faces kt/or any lifts (vs the parking lot) Worth the $ just to bask in it's glory and not have to drive/park.
Take a drive around the lake one day.
Spring break can be pretty mellow as a lot of the bay area people have spring activities and youth sports to keep them home.

Traffic from Tahoe City side tends to be a little more manageable than from Truckee. Mid week should be all right as long as it's not a hyped up powder day. Still doesn't hurt to plan on getting to the hill a bit early (8.30). No parking reservations required mid-week. I like to park near Red Dog / Far East; not as competitive to find spots very close to the lift there.

Drive from Truckee or Tahoe is generally no biggie midweek, obviously give extra time if it's snowing, but still not bad, so get whatever hotel suits your needs. Midweek parking is easy, weekends need reservations (free if you book it as soon as they're available, otherwise $30, and might not be necessary depending on when your spring break is).

I'm expecting nothing open until Sunday at any of the resorts. In general, I avoid Palisades /Alpine on any weekend... and if they open anything on Sat after the most hyped up storm of the year, it's going to be an insane shitshow trying get to/ from there.

If Mt Rose opens Sunday, I'll be there. If you want buddy discount tickets for there, let me know. Pricing varies.

And it's fuckin hilarious that people think there might be skiing happening at sq*@w on Saturday. At best, several hours of waiting in traffic and lift lines for a handful of runs, but that's being very optimistic.
