Didn't come off as judgemental at all! I have been beating myself up about that very point. I have specifically heard Cody and others discussing this issue and always justified my equipment choice in various ways.

My sons who were with me this trip and witnessed the whole ugly thing (I feel terrible about that too, what a traumatic experience for them) ... They gave me a pair of Nordica Unleashed last Christmas which I love but on a day with great powder options I always grab an old set of 108 Rossignols that are mounted with a Dynafit touring set up. They have released when pushed in the past, and I only lock them on the uphill, still I know I've been pushing my luck and it finally caught up hard. the chute was already pretty chewed up and the Nordicas would have been better option there but not for the great powder all around.

Still I think its a simple fact...had i been on DIN alpine bindings i would not be on a plane home now with two badly broken legs (the destroyed tibial plateau part of it sounds esp. fun) But i also know that I personally had better stop dwelling on what I should have done but didnt, thats debilitating too.

re. Cody Townsend, i want to go back and listen to a Blister episode where they discuss how essential it is for major injury recovery to have some transformative value. Hey,im a carpenter/furniture maker and have always wanted to take some time to learn chip carving!

You might consider sending cspringsposer a message as you start to get moving on recovery post surgery. If I recall correctly he had a similar injury(maybe even a bit worse?) on one leg.

@daviski, first off, serious +vibes to you. While not as severe as your injury, I similarly broke my tibial plateau while on vacation skiing at Alta (5 years ago). Good luck with the flight… I don’t wish that discomfort on anyone.

Please do not hesitate to reach out to talk about the surgery, recovery or anything else regarding rehab… specifically from an avid skier’s perspective. The recovery/healing is just as much psychological as physical.

There’s a TPF recovery thread in gimp central where I posted a bit. Some good info there from others too! Stay away from the TPF recovery group on FB.

There's some good advice here about recovering from a serious injury, including from TGR's own XtrPickles (co-host Rob Pickles): https://www.fasttalklabs.com/fast-ta...erious-injury/

Maybe a cornice broke under him as he tried to see what chute he was above and threw him in the chute?

The terrain can be gnarly on that peak. It's out of bounds so ski patrol can't put cliff signs up which could prevent deaths. I'm glad they let you ski the terrain off that peak though but it's even more consequential feeling and scary from the top.

Davski, good luck getting home. Who knows if your bindings broke your legs but damn it's an easy guess they probably did. Sorry man. I hope it's a short flight.
Yeah I sure wouldn't venture in there without a lot more coverage, if ever. All that stuff looks pretty committing for sure. I guess we'll never know the skiers intentions, poor guys either way. brutal.

Thanks for indulging my morbid curiosity guys. I've only ever been up there in the summer and been trying to get a handle on what it looks like with snow. The terrain up there looks awesome if, like I said, committing.
There's nothing better than sliding down snow, flying through the air

2" new cream on crust was still fun.
The C113s do a sweet job of slicing through the chop.

                  A nice tool, Marshall.

                    lovely day

watched this guy launch into lone tree going way too fast, blew his first turn, tumbled all the way down to the runout.

Nope, rolling back PNDub way in between the storms.

I may slice back this way in late March/early April, but there's a lot of objects in the air right now. Will ping if I do.

What are the chances I’ll actually be able to drive up LCC tomorrow at 11? 5%? 11%?

Yeah, Utah. It's wedged in between Wyoming and Nevada. You've seen pictures of it, right?

So after 15 years we finally made it to Utah.....

Really? Just a few inches predicted for the base area by morning (though with up to a foot on the mountain by noon), so I'm inclined to give it a try. Should be okay if the official accumulation remains below the "powder alert" threshold, I'm thinking.

Today was Valentines Day, and Lady's Choice was Deer Valley. I wasn't expecting much other than nicely textured cruisers, but it was a great day. Powder-ish turns on the Dalys and X-Files trees all day long.

Edit: LCC drive was fine, guess it wasn’t Powder Alert; just a basic average day at Alta.
