Whitefish is pretty quick to pull the plug on opening when temps get low. Sometimes they're a bit too quick, I'd argue. But whatever - not many people skiing when it's deep in the negatives, and the skiing usually isn't great anyways. Upper lifts were closed today (-48 with windchill at the summit at 9am) so I skinned up adjacent to the resort. Some of the slowest snow I've ever skied. But hey, at least it was crusty.

Even ice isn't slippery when it's this cold.

Little too cold for me. Think I'll settle in to the bench this weekend and tie up a bunch of flies. Or if that gets boring might take the sled out Sunday.

        You guys go get it.

Yeah, no desire to get out there, but I'd like to hear about it if anybody does. Might go to GD Sunday for a couple hours to seek fresh tracks. It hasn't been too windy so maybe the snow is holding in spots. Monday/Tuesday at Big Sky looks promising, a little warmer and hopefully some terrain openings by then.

Yup, the one good thing about this cold is that the roads get grippy again.

Actually a fun morning at Pig Sty despite the brisk temperature to start, no breeze, some fresh snow and the air warmed up to 2*F or so. Lifts were ski on including the tram.

Freaking lost one of the batteries from my boot heaters. Haven't needed them all year. Came right off the boot while skiing. New batteries are spendy.

Anyone randomly have a single battery like this they want to sell?

Does anyone have beta touring in the Hyalite area since the last storm? I’m thinking about stepping out and trying to stay warm tomorrow.

70+ hours now below zero F. Managed to get up to 3 below today. At least the wind has started to blow.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Did a couple afternoon laps at BB. It was pretty quiet and the snow was extra grippy. Not sure I’ll be motivated to head up tomorrow.

Went and dealt with the -5 temps today. It was at least above zero at the base. Actually found some decent skiing. It's nice to go hammer through chop when that's the only thing that'll keep me warm.

Honestly wasn't that cold at BS today and HW was open. Did one lap through Hellroaring. Soft and not moguls.
