Disney’s “Mulan” has been delayed multiple times this year because of the coronavirus outbreak, but audiences will finally be able to see the blockbuster soon.
Man, I hope this is not a harbinger of the new norm...$30 to watch Mulan at home!
Definitely not some Disney movie.
But I'd quite often rather pay $30 to watch a new release movie at home on my big TV and nice sound system than listen to 100 other people munch popcorn.
Add in the benefit of a rewind button, pause button, kitchen, beverage choices.

I think the $30 price point is a miss. The previous releases straight to VOD that did well were at $20. That seems a better value. That said, they didn't have $200M budgets they had to make up for.
I even find $20 to be a bit much.
Heck, I won't even pay $9.99 for a new release to stream at home.
$3.99 is my outer limit. And even then that would only be for a movie that I cannot find on NF DVD or that is hard to find elsewhere.
That said, I feel the $20 and $30 price points are aimed at families. I believe a family of 4 would easily spend in excess of $60 for a night out at the movies once you factor in concessions and parking
But as a single dude, there is no way I am paying $30 to stream a film on my 48" TV, not when I used to go to the theater for $5 a pop pre-COVID (though that seems like it will surely change, especially if theaters only operate at 50% capacity once/if they reopen...)
^^^ agreed. If I'm watching it at home, the only difference between a $30 VOD and a $2 rental is the 5 months I'd have to wait for the VOD to hit a red box. I'm not in that much of a rush.
Keanu Reeves is back in the back-to-back sequels game with John Wick 4 and 5 aiming to film consecutively next year. On today's Lionsgate earnings call, the studio's CEO John Feltheimer said, "We’re also busy preparing scripts for the next two installments of our John Wick action franchis...
Antebellum to skip theaters and go straight to VOD
Empire Strikes Back?! I'm in. Thanks for the heads up! You should totally go. If your experience is like all my recent theater outings have been, you could very well have the entire joint to yourself. Kind of surreal.

Sadly, no AMC in my neck of the woods; closest one is 3+ hours away.
I am still mad leery of the cinema experience right now, though. Also, neither Cinemark/Century or Galaxy, the chains near me (Reno) have announced if/when they will re-open, so no Silver Screen for me for awhile.
We have a local pop-up drive-in, but it is $30 a car, 2 person max!
The drive-in in Reno is only $8.75, but their programming is heavily skewed towards families (Trolls World Tour, Doctor Doolittle, Avengers, etc).
I wish they would do some Friday/Saturday Midnite Horror and Schlock, but doesn't seem to be in the cards.
Buddy of mine says the drive-in near him in Virginia has been doing grindhouse midnite shows and their family films have been deep diving (Karate Kid + Labyrinth!!!)...
Hey Dookey. Alama Drafthouses are reopening soon, but thought you'd find their new rules pretty good. More than that, go watch their highly entertaining 8-bit instructional video here: https://drafthouse.com/austin/covid-safety

Nice!
Dug The Shining and Gremlins mini-bosses.
Too bad the closest Alamo is 3+ hours away.
I fondly recall going to what I believe was the original Alamo, which was in downtown Austin and located on the second story of a brick building above a Chinese restaurant. It was the second movie theater I had been to that served food and booze (The first had been in Arlington, VA). I never understood why it took California so long to embrace the concept...
Earlier this week, Alamo Drafthouse was the subject of a deeply disturbing expose about its problematic work culture. Many current and former employees accused the company of a variety of issues including sexism, racism and sexual harassment.
