Got tickets for Jason Isbell (with Gillian Welch and David Rawlings opening) at Red Rocks next May. Should be excellent.

Caught THE BETA BAND last night.
the show had its ups and downs, but overall was pretty solid.
They essentially performed their THREE E.P.’s collection, plus a few other ditties.
they jammed a lot, too, doing some extended percussion riffs (they had two drum kits, xylophones, and myriad other small drums scattered about the stage) and using a lot of tape loops, samples, and other cool prerecorded fx.
they showed a passel of cool video collages and had a sweet light show, as well.

Gotta go rewatch HIGH FIDELITY now…

I am not usually a big festival guy, but this one is small enough and all the venues are close to one another and mostly indoors, so it’s kind of cool.
The rschedules sometimes conflict and are definitely geared toward those who like to pop around and see a few songs from many different bands (I, on the other hand, am one of those folks who prefers to see a band’s entire set.)

Anyway, I saw a few bands I’d seen before—Sego and Tropa Magica—plus several that were new to me:
    Spirit Award
    Hillfolk Noir
    Packaging
    Doom Gong
    My Dallas Teens
    Combo Tezeta

All these acts get a major thumbs up and I recommend checking them out if they swing through a venue near you.
i just caught doom gong in eugene last week, great show and they were all very nice to chat with, could tell they were stoked on playing music and sharing their energy

small venue in corvallis has been getting some old hip hop, abstract rude did a locals showcase with some college kids demonstrating their skills, and blueprint came through playing some old and new off recent album which is one of his best
    ?
saw couple of anniversary tours recently also, deltron 3030 was fantastic, and rx bandits took me back to my HS days which was a lot of fun

kneecap livestream was kinda meh, but had a watch/trim party with friends and still made it a good time

rahzel of the roots scheduled for Halloween, but also got a friends band playing with a RATM cover band at different venue which sounds pretty fun and may take precedent that night

Haha funny, small world. I was off to the side avoiding the brunt of the full volume. It still sounded great up near the bar there, I thought.

Dookey, bummer the Oakland show didn’t fill up better. Weeknight shows are rough for fans of a band that’s been going for a few decades, I suppose. Agreed that Station Approach was a highlight. The surprise for me was The Birds - it never resonated much with me on the album but now I think I just never listened to it loud enough. Hearing the heft they put behind it live was intense.

Elbow was pretty damn bueno last night at The Fox in Oakland.
While the venue was only about 1/3 full, the band played like it was a full house and were decidedly professional in that respect.
Despite the meager turnout, those in attendance seemed to be mega fans, singing the lyrics to just about every song and engaging in some serious crowd participation throughout the duration of the 100+ minute set.
Frontman Guy Garvey had the crowd wrapped around his fingers and was the epitome of the utmost charismatic crooner.
The band delivered their trademark romantic prog stylings with grace, humor, and serious umph!
While the entire set was top notch, “Station Approach” was my high point and it brought tears to my eyes.
It’s only taken me 20 years to see these guys, but am glad I finally did.

3 days. 60+ performances. Dozens of incredible artists. Some you may already love, the rest you’re definitely about to. In intimate rooms and outdoor stages all across Reno’s Brewery District.

I am planning to hit the Oakland Elbow show on Wednesday, though I have not been able to convince anyone to join me.
they have been on my hit list for years…

wasn’t able to make it to TV on the Radio Sunday, though. My buddy said I missed a banger.

I caught Elbow in Seattle last night.. There are a couple more shows on the west coast this week (Oakland and LA) and I can’t believe they aren’t sold out. Beautiful songs and an impressive supporting string/brass/clarinet section. Check ‘em out if you can make it.

ID:	11627152 Violent Femmes - Flynn Theater Burlington VT. Since my formative years were the 80’s I was very familiar with the band, but never seen them live. Surprised how good there still were, if you have a chance to see them, it’s worth it. First drum kit I’ve seen that included a Weber grill. He played it well.
