Tomorrow night we see Within Temptation at the Wiltern in LA. Train ride up and back. Uber to the hotel and walk to the show. I hope it is an awesome evening.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.
"Some folks may have the luxury to hold out for “the perfect.” But a lot of Americans are hurting right now and they can’t wait for that." - Hillary Clinton
Saw three (3) live shows last week, which is probably the most live music I have seen in a long time.
Show #1:
TWRP @ Holland Project in Reno, NV.
Costume band from Canada that look like rehabilitated villains from Power Rangers who found the music of Zapp as therapeutic. Great show. Great venue.
Show #2:
Atmosphere @ Ace of Spades in Sacramento, CA.
I hadn't seen Atmosphere in at least 11 years and the last time I interviewed them was for their When Life Gives You Lemons... album (circa 2008).
Great sound, solid beats and rhymes, but Slug came off really smug and there were a ton of drunk douchebags in the audience (weaving frat boys, wannabe hipsters, and tatted "thugs"), so I'm not sure how I felt about the show. I will say this, the TWRP show was all-ages, so no alcohol and the crowd was respectful; the Atmosphere show was full bar and people were drunk-as-f%^k and I was sober and realized that drunk folks are kinda lame (and it made me realize how many times I've been seriously lame at shows over the past 20 years!).
Show #3:
Mike Doughty @ The Saint in Reno, NV.
He performed Ruby Vroom in it's entirety and opened with "Super Bon Bon" and "Circles." His backing band (3/7 of opening act Wheatus) was tight as hell and he tweaked a lot of the lyrics. I still love his nasal sandpaper voice.
Going to see Black Mountain in Reno tomorrow and Cypress Hill in Sacto on Friday...
Galactic tonight, bar's capacity is only 300, will try to grab a photo video etc.
Something about the wrinkle in your forehead tells me there's a fit about to get thrown
And I never hear a single word you say when you tell me not to have my fun
It's the same old shit that I ain't gonna take off anyone.
and I never had a shortage of people tryin' to warn me about the dangers I pose to myself.
Dinner time. Nice chat with Ben, his nephew plays sax in my nephews band in New Orleans, Naughty Professor... small world!

Blew the roof off as hoped. Instrumental that opened the second set was straight fire. Nobody was filming on their phones which was awesome so I didn’t either other than a short stupid clip.
