Demo/ Raceplate on straight skis

I was lucky enough to receive these RC4s from my shop. I’ve only skied on parabolics so it was such a blast to ski on something this narrow and stiff!

People are so hyped to see a straight ski but very few have ever had the chance to ski on one. I think it would be fun to have a pair in the shop for people to feel what was skied on pre-parabolic skis and understand the progression of skiing. Also satisfy those who are a bit nostalgic!

I’ve considered mounting these with raceplates or demo race bindings to allow a range of bsls. Most demo bindings on the market are toowide for 60-70mm skis.

I think I’ve found three options that would work but I’d love to hear what you think about these systems.

- Rockerface SPX 15 w/ R22 plate


- Tyrolia Race ST 14 w/ WCR 14 plate


- Tyrolia Freeflex Demo w/ freeflex plate

I had a pair of the 223 RC4 with the holes in the tips which i had traded for my old Breville Roma espresso maker,

I wasn't that thrilled cuz the ski actulay wasnt that fast cuz non sintered bases i was told, i went faster on a set of more modern 183 redster double deck GS skis

I traded the RC4's for a couple six packs and buddy made them into shot skis, probably a more fitting end and you can put a lot of shots on a 223

so if i was you I wouldn't bother and in fact I didnt bother

If you're hot for straight skis, there's plenty of straight action with used GS skis that have better design, construction and materials.

Recovered my college skis that I gave away decades ago, black 205 Blizzard Thermo RS with Soli 957 Equipe. Bindings are full of sand from desert garage storage, one of these days I'll swap some much-newer STH into the holes and take 'em for a spin. I'd clean & grease the toe pedestals and run the 957 if they didn't have so much dirt in the heels, but it's not worth the risk.

Don't listen to the naysayers, they're worth more than a wall hanging. But I do think you're overthinking the bindings. That R22 plate is complete overkill for a novelty ski or a trip down memory lane. Just hunt down some old rental bindings and mount em up. If you think people are really going to try to get after it on those things, run a look px/spx or a tyrolia peak/mojo mounted for a 315mm bsl. Should accommodate most anyone that wants to try it out, and it won't matter so much if you're fore/aft on the ski since the center of the sidecut is pretty irrelevant with a ~60m radius. My .02.
