    Padded mid-layers / protection?

Looked like powder but it was all rock. Hipchecked as I slid and now I have a softball sized bulge on my ass. Could have been worse.

Looking for something to add a little
extra protection. Who's padded up? What works and moves well under layers?

First off, call it Armor, not Padding. Much more core, brah!
For a couple of seasons (after injury) I used to wear R.E.D Impact Shorts. Basically boxers with spine protection & hip pads.
Mostly cos you can usually get them for cheap.
YogaChik used to rep for company that sold ski gear with integrated armor. Cant remember name - prolly went under.
    Their byline was something like
    Oh Huck It

Pretty much anything designed for mountain biking works. D3O material is nice. www.allsportprotection.com has a great selection, I've bought from them a couple times.

Not always true, some of the materials behave differently based on temps... but of course I have a poc spine protector which is marketed both skiing and mountain biking so there's lots of overlap. I imagine impact shorts though would behave pretty consistently.

I have the POC vpd shorts. They sit close enough to your skin to stay warm and flexible, and the padding is top notch.

I remember the armoured skiwear (jackets and pants with built-in impact protection), A1 or something like that

Meatdrink9 and crew sold that stuff under some company name like 10 years ago

Ive been been using some Billybob padded shorts and love them. I think they are made for mtn biking? Sizes are huge, i had to get a small. Im not a small in anything else, not a medium in anything either. Best thing about padded shorts is the extra insulation on the tailbone for sitting on the lift. Its insulation exactly where you want it. They also are a big help when you land on a rock with your ass.
