I have some skins that are cut to skis that are around 80mm underfoot. I now have a pair of skis that are 110mm underfoot. Can i use my old skins for my new skis?

Can I still use my skins?

I did the same thing recently, I used 90 mm skins on 120 mm skis. Its was ugly, the skins had almost zero grip on packed down, hard skin tracks. The skins hooked up in fresh snow, but that was it.Comment

If the skins are useless to you your best bet would be to put a slice in the skins length ways just after the tip through to the tail. When applying the skins set them just back from edge to edge. Not going to be good as full coverage but far better than lots of empty base near the edges.Comment

Me too. Couldn't get any traction at all with 80mm skins on a 115 ski. It sucked. Ended up getting some fat skins and they worked a lot better.Originally posted by Foggy_GogglesIf I lived in WA, Oft would be my realtor. Seriously.Comment

Yeah they're still useable in certain situations (i.e. flat and rolling tours) but certainly far less than ideal. And you're never going to be happy on a steeper skin track.
Whether its worth bothering probably depends on how much touring your doing - if a lot of touring then save yourself the frustration and wasted energy and buy new skins.
One touring setup I have is skin cut for 70 mm ski on a 84 mm ski - works ok most of the time but has lots less base showing than what you're contemplating.
Try running the skins down the inside edge of skis - you can then do a slight herringbone step and get ok grip - I do this quite a bit with a 30mm skin on a 60mm ski for rando racing on flatter and rolling terrain.Comment
