new backpack time, anyone have a deuter guide 35+?

unfortunately i can only go by specs since no one seems to sell deuter locally.. looking for something i can use four seasons but this will get used mostly for climbing, day hikes, and light overnight camping. i probably won't use it much in the winter outside of the odd ice climb or overnight hut tour. the alpine back system looks like it'll be nice when carrying skis, rope, or just heavy gear in general.. but does anyone know what the ventilation is like for summer use? there's also the futura 38 which has full mesh back but that might not be so sturdy for hauling gear and seems like the kind of mesh design that could easily fill up with snow in the winter? anyways if anyone has one let me know what you think of either, i've found all of 2 reviews for the guide 35..

I picked up the guide 35+ last fall. I did use it on an overnight backpacking trip before winter started. I am a big fan of it, it actually is built to carry a decent amount of weight and carries it well. The variflex hip belt is the shit.

It doesnt have the full mesh back, but it does have raised pads to get some ventilation on your back.

I have the 45+. Seems like the system holds weight great -- better than a lot of backpacking packs I have owned. Love the hip belt. Construction is excellent and very waterproof. Haven't had any problem with back ventilation whatsoever, but also haven't been out in the blistering heat with a large load. This has been a great pack for heavy loads skiing and in the fall -- dont know about the futura, but the ski carrying system on the guide is great (if you love a frame, which I do.)

I am not a big fan of camelbacks, they all seem to conspire against me, so I use one of these, it works great. Has a big velcro flap on it that you can use to attach it anywhere, and to any pack, which is nice.

I have a Guide 35+ and 45+ and use them both for longer or overnight tours. I love them both, my wife mostly uses the 35. I've had them for 3 years or so and back then only the 45 had a side access zipper which is nice. They fit great and are low profile enough to use on short days too.
As for attaching a water bottle, I just stick a Platypus 0.5L water bag in my pocket and refill as necessary from a bigger bottle in the bag on longer stops. Works great.

Yeah they don't show it well in the picture. On the back of the water bottle pocket is a long flap w/ velcro, that you use to loop through any strap or loop on your pack so you can attach the pocket anywhere.

Check out Mystery Ranch packs. Sweatpea is about the same size. I have the Fuze and couldn't be happier with it's build quality and comfort.
