And this. In the end this country will be a smoking shell of itself and Canada will still be laughing at us. I just need to win the lotto so I can move home. Real estate is expensive in the Great White North.
Never in U.S. history has the public chosen leadership this malevolent. The moral clarity of their decision is crystalline, particularly knowing how Trump will regard his slim margin as a “mandate” to do his worst. We’ve learned something about America that we didn’t know, or perhaps didn’t believe, and it’ll forever color our individual judgments of who and what we are.

hatred is a strong word as I have never been a knee jerk anti American and have on many instances defended America as it is hard to be in that position but..... I don't think most western Canadians understand the econ of southern Ont connected to the auto sector and how much harm would be done. Its all just in time manufacturing so the job losses would be almost immediate. I guess I'm a fair play kind of guy so find the black mail somewhat maddening. Canada gave up its branch plant manufacturing with NAFTA so there is no going back to manufacturing toothpaste etc. Maybe it will all work out with just drama and no real harm but I have never thought in my life that leaving NORAD was a possible thing to do.

The greater Toronto area is home to something like 20% of Canadians. It’s the 4th biggest city in North America after Mexico City, NYC, and Los Angeles.

Serious question- are there any Trudeau loyalists left in Canada?

The century initiative stuff is wild. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Century_Initiative

I learned about it from some very liberal Vancouverites on a BC hut trip a couple years ago who were disenfranchised with the party because of not being able to afford to buy a house with two MD salaries.

I used to really look up to Canada. It was a beacon of hope of what the US could be if we could just get our shit together, but in recent years Canada has been horribly mismanaged. Cost of living is insane. Wages are low. It's really sad to see what it is becoming. Canada is either going to be entirely run into the ground or the "politeness as a virtue" is going to have to go away.

I'm not saying the US is better in any way, it is just such a bummer to see Canada fall so hard.

the trudeau govt left the tap on way too long for immigration, a bad recipe for a global fever against incumbent parties, the cost of living and associated problems.

the country’s population is up like 25% in the last fifteen years? anyway, safe to say that at the very least the pendulum has swung the other way and there’s a big Not Welcome sign up front. 100M is not happening in my lifetime if i go to 150.

not really I mean JT is a bit of a dumb ass, way down in the polls and he has been in a long time, Polievere hasnt really got any ideas and his caucus are amercian style whacko nut jobs so he just thinks its his turn. and so in the mean time he is impatient

Its a Liberal minority gov so the NDP has been holding JT's feet to the fire to get stuff for Canadians like instead of dragging feet the Libs had to give everyone a Federalngovernment dental and also adrug plan in very short time or the government was going down, I'm fairly certain think the average Canadian is too stupid to realize this was good so everyone wants to fuck Trudeau and there are fuck Trudeau stickers everywhere

The RE in Vangroovy has been stupid high for a long time, I left > 25 yrs ago and i suggested to anyone who would listen it was in their best interest TO leave. I think housing has been insane almost every where in the world, shit has changed covid did not help I duno what the liberals could have done, and now populist governments are all the rage so we will very likely have a conservative government next time round

I have never seen that century stuff and I very much doubt it

It’s been a bad stretch for incumbents pretty much everywhere regardless of political leaning. Doesn’t bode well for JT.

For all of the various Trump v Kamala topics, I think most of it came down to that.

BC has been pretty liberal but this last provincial election the NDP almost lost it, there were recounts in a bunch of ridings they have squeaked thru by I think one elected candidate and in some ridings they only won by literally a few votes so the whacko nut job right wing rural anti covid vax people almost pulled off an upset and so i would bet JT will be out

2billion $ a day back and forth of the 49th is a big number, I think if Trump trys to fuck up Canada he will fuck up the usa at the same time

I have to say this Globe and mail columnist sums up a lot of centre peoples opinion of JT
"Certainly there is plenty to criticize in this government, and this Prime Minister. They have mishandled the economy, undermined public finances, ignored rising threats to national security, bollixed immigration, inflamed the housing market, and much else besides, all wrapped in a peculiarly divisive and doctrinaire form of identity politics.

Mr. Trudeau’s serial ethical lapses, combined with his tendency to preachiness, combined with his shallowness and vanity, combined with his flippant disdain for detail or the hard work of governing, have long since paled on the Canadian voter. There is a reason his government has reached such historic depths in the polls."

I'm really unsure about PP but JT has to go.

Any of our rivers that flow south across the border, the US owns. Timber is getting killed by tariffs, despite WTO and Old NAFTA rulings against the US - they are already higher than Trump’s promised fuckery.
AB got their pipelines to the west, might get another south with the new admin.
Fisheries on the east and west are forever fucked, for different reasons, but for this west coaster, I shed no tears harvesting Columbia R chinook when AK rapes our Fraser and Is stock.
Canadian mining companies are Canadian like shipping companies are registered in Liberia.
People with no tastebuds prefer winter strawberries from California and Mexico than in season from home. No accounting for taste I suppose. Glad I left the family farming biz, Oh wait. snap! See the forests sector quip above.
The auto industry is so integrated, no serious politician can play that game of wack-a-mole. And if the US want land, better be ready to pay handsomely to the First Nations.

The relationship is complicated, but dumbfucks really want to be gravy seals and constitutional libertarians - useless but the itch needs to be scratched. Hope we are able to keep our culture, cause it is important.

Love to share a brew and smoke with our southern cousins, but keep the tribal dysfunctional shit to yourself and I will do the same - we got bigger global problems to solve. And welcome back La Nina! Stoke should be plenty to share this winter!
