Stoked for this. I hope Rafa sends Djoker packing - his final French Open seeding, much like this draw, was tough so it would be a fantastic capstone on a wonderful career to get one more W in the final head to head of the Big 4 era.

I knew surfing in Tahiti was nice. I didn’t know it was that nice until seeing the coverage. Wow.

I like to watch sports at the Olympics I would normally never watch. In that spirit, the women's team archery final was a real barn burner. What I saw of Street skateboarding was pretty disappointing, I get that the difficulty of those routines is off the charts, but if the whole reason to have the sport in the Olympics is to be telegenic, there has to be more flippy spinny stuff. Hoping for more pizzazz from the park competition.
Love all this. CBC is my favorite outlet for a non-Bob Costas sob story filled Winter Games.

Also, the Olympics (preferably Winter) are my favorite sporting event by a mile, for this very reason you point out. Here’s world class athletes getting to showcase why they’re badass to the world every 4 years in sports that wouldn’t even be featured on The Ocho.

    Fact.

Paris is so far putting on such a show here. The beautiful city, amazing athletes and venues are bringing out all the big names. It’s been really fun to follow along and I wish I was there in person to be a part of it all.
I still call it The Jake.

Kenny Albert calling the water polo--in the grand tradition of Doc Emrick. Seems appropriate to have hockey announcers call that sport. They had one underwater shot in US v Italy with a guy yanking another guys speedo half way down his butt. And a player expelled for a punch to the face. Great sport to watch--not a lot of screwing around. Swimming OTOH is terrible unless you fast forward to the actual start of the next event. Wish I could have DVR'd my kid's swim meets.

And there is no doubt that fencing is the hardest sport to follow. There is no way to tell who touched who without the announcer telling us.

I guess I never thought about it before, but apparently the surface must be chosen by the host country, and of course the French chose clay. Good news for Rafa.

They’ve figured out how to broadcast it over the past 8 years. It used to be a really challenging watch…. Yesterday’s Serbia / Montenegro game was highly entertaining.

"No way to tell who touched who" sounds a little #metoo. I had the same experience with judo, I would have no idea who won a point, or think someone definitely won a point when they hadn't. When they deign to give you a slow-mo replay, it helps a lot. Those athletes are doing amazing things when they finally get through their opponent's guard.

My gods I'm stuck in a home right now with some fox news addicts and the outrage they're pushing about the opening ceremony is completely INSANE. It's been going on for hours.

Personally I would have been a bit disappointed if the French didn't let their freak flags fly a bit during the opening ceremony. France has a rich tradition of pushing the envelope artistically. Anyone outraged needs to take the stick out of their ass.

My thoughts exactly. A kind of weird production that happened 4 days ago, who cares? There's sports to watch! Go Brandon! (McNulty, of course)

But we have to remember, these are people who get all spun up about the idea that prominent Democrats are sacrificing infants in the basement of a pizza parlor that doesn't have a basement.

The opening was a bit much. Even for the French.

Men’s group gymnastics was awesome. Rainy day entertainment for me
                        Nice bronze.

Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason

I'm sure everyone here is surprised that CS was offended by the opening ceremony

Old Smurf Dionisius aside, Marie Antoinette's head introducing Gojira for 3 minutes of metal with flamethrowers and fountains of blood ranks pretty high on the list of things I didn't think I'd see at the Olympics but very much approve of.

Ya, that’s a long way from Up with People, but I thought it was bizarrely cool.

And eff the idiots that thought it was too much. Especially the ones crying about the not actually last supper.
