On the corner of Brimmer and Beacon (Beacon Hill side) accross from the Public Garden. Used to swill there occasionally whilst doing a grad degree at Emerson. It was still called the Bull Finch Pub back then. Beacon Hill Pub (corrected brain cramp) is a dive still worthy if the name. Funny it's still going strong wconsidering the property values though ...

Good times at Beacon Hill Pub. Cheers is a major let down; everybody does not know your name. Silvertone is across the Common and probably too clean to be a dive but they do serve happy meals and High Life in a baseball bat bottle.Comment

Boston recommendations?
If I’m being honest, the only thing I remember about the way that place looked was that it was in the basement. Many smokes smoked on the curb. The sidewalk outside the place was usually rowdy too. RIPComment

Cantab in Central Square / Cambridge for some good local music in a classic dive bar.
And catch a sox game in Fenway if you can!Comment

The Intermission is fun, but I believe it's closing soon. The Tam just up the street is meant to be... entertaining!
I work on Tremont Street by the Common. PM me if you're feeling thirsty. Always up for a beer!Comment

What happened to Joe's Iceman joke? I thought it was funny
Looking through the old threads the duck tours are a common thread. I've brought up the idea but I don't know if we're doing it.
It sounds like now the plan is the get out of town for a day or a day and a night. She's suggested Vermont. Is that really where to go from Boston? What about Maine, that looks close too. We'll have a dog with us and I'm not looking to do any long hikes or anythingComment

Eh for the amount of time you're going there's plenty to do in Boston. I'd stick to the Boston area especially if it's over the weekend. Summer traffic getting out of Boston can be brutal, plus there's way too much to do in VT for just a day or day/half...not even sure where you would go or begin? For a less driving intensive trip you could check out Portsmouth, NH or maybe the very southern part of Maine. I'd probably go there on a short time period over southern VT. But whatever you do, do not try to leave on Friday for a Sat/Sun unless you want to sit in 3hrs traffic for an otherwise 45min ride. What happened to Joe's Iceman joke? I thought it was funny
