    UPS Strike Anybody?

The prospect of a UPS strike has me re evaluating just how much online shopping I do. First thought was, "Gosh, I hope all the stuff I've ordered recently arrives before they walk out".. I'm taking it as a cue from the universe to cut back on spending money on every single cool looking thing I see online and instead find ways to make the gear I already have work for me or sell it locally/donate it/move it out if I'm not enjoying having it enough.

Honestly, I'm actually 100% in favor of organized labor rights and collective bargaining. I'd like to see union membership back to what it was in the 70s, the heyday of the middle class boom. Right to work is the single biggest fraud and misnomer which has sabotaged everyone but upper management and BIG business owners.

Good luck Brown! I will stop feeding the beast that's devouring your livelihood while you strike and only buy brick and mortar when that's possible for what I need until you have a better contract agreement.
Go that way really REALLY fast. If something gets in your way, TURN!

Can't blame 'em. From what I've heard from some of the drivers, e-commerce is pushing these guys to the brink of insanity. Amazon's the biggest culprit of course. Unfortunately, it's a double edge sword as Amazon's also a huge chunk of what's keeping them afloat and Amazon would be more than happy to just ramp up their own (super crappy) courier services to fill the gap. What used to be a pretty good job now sounds pretty awful with how much pressure they're under these days. If they do strike, I really do wish them all the best.

I get UPS deliveries some nights as late as 8-9 PM. That's a long goddamn day.

FWIW, UPS isn’t the only one that delivers for Amazon. The majority of the packages delivered are via USPS.

Amazon bids out the routes that take the packages to a central location then they deliver 2,4,8 pallets that came pre wrapped from Amazon to local post offices then out for delivery.

That said, the biggest Teamster union is with UPS, Fed Ex and USPS drivers. If they were to go on strike it would be bad for everyone.

UPS and USPS are practically the same entity now in operations. I have lots of things that seem to cross courier names from point a to point b.

Think of all the hospital and medical products people now depend on having delivered weekly instead of having big storage inventories on hand. If you need to refill your 90 day supply of insulin you could be SOL.. And pharmacies will get slammed with everyone trying to refill there instead with no real way to replace vitally needed products.

I still say do it! Just like I'm not going to tell marginalized people they can't protest in the streets because it hampers emergency responder access. To make an omelette a few eggs have to be broken. Protests rarely work if some or many aren't severely inconvenienced or pissed off about the protest. Resolve the issue being protested or deal with the collateral damage..

Whenever my UPS driver comes through in the evening during the summer while I have my barbecue going, I hook them up with some grub. They love it.

You ever see a UPS guy not busting ass? I did some reading about the company a while back and it sounds like they REALLY push productivity. Always used to meet the guy at the truck when I was home during the day, but thats a rare occurence with my current work schedule. The regular guy at my old house always gave my dog treats too, even though she acted like she wanted to murder him haha

Same here, and even later during Xmas season. I blame management for at least 2 hours of waste for our driver, by changing how the drivers day goes.

A bottom up attack on cost pressure from Wall Street and the internet would be good. It has to start somewhere.

Yes, but he's busting ass before and after I see him not busting ass.

Both will pay third party carriers to move their stuff between the big hubs but will handle the home delivery themselves.
