Just starting to plan a strip to Glacier NP later this summer and looking for recommendations on what things are not to be missed while there.

Nailed it.
My all-time favorite hike: Starting in Many Glacier, catch the shuttle up to Logan Pass, hike along the Garden Wall, up and over Swiftcurrent Pass and back into Many Glacier. ~16 miles.
See if you can find the exploratory mineshaft above Cracker Lake.We heard you in our twilight caves, one hundred fathom deep below, for notes of joy can pierce the waves, that drown each sound of war and woe.Comment

You should read "The Night of the Grizzlies" then hike to and stay at the Granite Chalet.
Spent two weeks touring the park - started at Waterton Lakes and stayed at the Prince of Wales doing day hikes (side trip to Frank Slide on the way - totally wild sight) then dropped down into Many Glaciers and a stayed at the lodge there with day hikes to the Ptarmigan tunnel etc. etc. Next it was onto Two Medicine and a hike into the back country for several nights followed by Granite Chalet and a last night at Lake McDonald Lodge. Great trip - wonderful park.
Incidently, it was at Many Glaciers where we saw the most Grizzlies and also where several bear attacks have occurred (on the way to Grinnell Lake). Also we had to vacate the camp site at Oldman Lake because of a black bear sow who charged through the middle of the designated dining area one morning.
Don't worry about the Glaciers - you want to see some, come to Washington. Just go and enjoy the park, it's worth seeing.Last edited by KQ; 06-17-2014, 04:25 PM.“When you see something that is not right, not just, not fair, you have a moral obligation to say something. Growing up near the park we had to read that book in high school English class, I bet hick remembers.
If you have your passport and time Waterton national park on the Canadian side is well worth the visit the drive from East Glacier up there is fantastic. Great steakhouse in Babb.Flying the Bluehouse colors in Western Canada! Let me know if you want some rad skis!!
"He is god of snow; the one called Ullr. Son of Sif, step son of Thor. He is so fierce a bowman and ski-runner that none may contend! He is quite beautiful to look upon and has all the characteristics of a warrior. It is wise to invoke the name of Ullr in duels!"
