Crazy scenes in Paris. Obviously all still just alleged but good on the teams for standing up for what's right.

Nope. That piece of shit and general fatass Anthony Precourt tried his best to pull an Art Modell and yank the founding franchise Columbus Crew to Austin, even going so far as to negotiate (and allegedly pay off) Austin Councilmembers/Commissioners (whatever the fuck they are in Texas) to approve the new stadium before getting MLS approval.

Then...the dumb piece of shit and his crack legal team completely forgot about the "Modell Law" on the books in Ohio that says if any pro sports franchise takes public dollars to build their facilities then they have to first offer the sale of the franchise to a local ownership group before being allowed to sell. Atty Gen. and now Gov. DeWine sued, and facing defeat (law was upheld in prior contests by Precourt) Precourt sold to one of the most amazing owners in all of pro sports: Your Cleveland Browns' Jimmy and Dee Haslam.

Now the Crew are in the MLS Final on Saturday and getting a sweet new stadium downtown next to the Bluejackets' Nationwide Arena and (of the best AAA parks I've seen) Columbus Clippers' Park.

Fuck owners like that fat turd.

Oh, and here's to a speedy rebuilding for my ATL UTD.

This new offside rule and VAR is atrocious. How is someone's hand/elbow being behind a defender an advantage? The offside calls such as against Madison in Leicester v Tottenham this morning is going to ruin footy. Same thing a few weeks ago in Leeds' match where the player pointing to where he wanted the ball caused him to be offside because his hand was behind the defender. The list goes on and on. Shoulders/head/legs behind the defender? Sure. A hand? No. Plus, the inconsistency such as in the City Southampton game yesterday when there was a clear hand ball in the box and VAR decides it's all good.

I don't think your post was fair to Chelsea, posting table results before week 14 was complete. With Monday's result Lampard's boys are up to 5th.

ok, so 5th and you better be after spending $292M this summer.

the problem with chelsea is they have too many offensive options. the havertz acquisition makes no sense especially since he's played out of position. subbing in for pulisic? could have landed a top defender for his transfer fee and left with plenty in the attack. at least you've addressed the gk situation.

what don't you understand? already having a CL qualifying team from last season and adding $292M in talent to it, you should at the very least be able to maintain a spot in the top 4 and would be surprised if they didn't. but to challenge for the league, they needed defensive help vs. more offensive players after already signing werner and ziyech. silva's a solid acquisition but he's 36

Ok here goes. They have more defensive players than they know where to put them right now. It hasn’t been an issue with having players it’s been about how they act as a defensive unit. Last year it wasn’t good. Popular theory being it wasn’t individual weak talent it was issues with acting as a cohesive unit which is critical to defense. They brought Silva in on a free to bring some metal and experience to their d backbone. It has worked like a charm.

Now they are looking at selling Christensen, Rudiger and Alonso because they have a super solid back d that is working well and they are working as a unit. Those 3 can’t get a game and shouldnt because they are each extremely mistake prone and mentally switch off in games. See Christensen red card vs. Liverpool.

They needed a leader because Keppa is young and is not a forceful enough personality. He is an excellent shot saving keeper but he is exceedingly shy by personality. No one was sure how Mendy would be in a new league with an all new defense. He’s been doing really well and is a commanding presence in his box which is more critical in the EPL than being a great shot saving keeper.

So they are not in need at all for any defensive players. They are looking at David Alaba because of course you do when he’s out of contract with Bayern. They are grooming new players to step in when Silva eventually can’t keep up. They bought some new young players and sent them out on loan in Portugal to develop.

Offense - you buy Ziyech for under $40m out of principal. He can change a game whenever he is on the field. He is a terrible defensive midfielder and will get crushed in any defensive setting. So will Pulisic. So if you’re playing a team that is pressing up with wingbacks you need players that will track back and play d. That’s strategy 101. That’s why you have a mason mount and kovacic who can also check back and play d.

Some see Kai Havertz as a generational talent. He’s 18 and has been killing it in the bundesliga. He’s in a new league that is much more physical and he’s having a hard time adjusting. He’s got plenty of time to come good as does Hudson odoi. Now they have the right players in midfield and offense to play more than one or two formations or systems. Brexit may have accelerated the havertz deal as well as others for euro players.

                            There’s lots more but...

Oh and not being top of league doesn’t mean shit a third of the way through it. This is all still new for many players at Chelsea. They sold or dropped experienced wingers.

That said, they won’t win this year. Liverpool look too strong and ManU is even starting to play well.

appreciate your insight. i do have some questions and comments. (1) defense. seems like lampard wants your back 4 to be chilwell, silva, zouma and james? not a zouma fan as he always has a mistake in him like david luiz and do you like zouma over rudiger? thought each at his best, rudiger is better but i'm sure you've seen each more often. alaba indeed would be a very good acquisition for any defense, 2) gk. mendy has been solid and a commanding presence. kepa's a mess imo and not even stopping shots anymore. 3) agree about ziyech, and like pulisic a lot as he seems to be a consistent offensive threat. just seems like chelsea have so many talented offensive players that they don't know what their best foot forward is. these aren't bad problems.

the entire point of the op was just taking a quick look at the leagues going into the holidays knowing a lot can change.

Zouma has had a fantastic season. Stats on winning head balls is outstanding and he is tied for 2nd team leading scorer in EPL. I don’t geek out on stats but he has had some really important headed set piece or corner kick goals. He is still super shaky with the ball at feet. There are times I can’t breathe when he has the ball. Same with Kante.

Between he and rudiger for this season so far, not even a contest. Rudiger is a far better player with distribution. He has been great in the air and they are both super fast and make great recovery tackles. I don’t know what happened to Rudiger. Maybe lack of playing brings lack of confidence. He looks a shell of himself and made some horrible decisions at the end of last season and so far this one.
