We're going down to pick up our new camper van in Reno and want to break it in car camping somewhere around the lake. What's the best camping on the west shore or maybe south shore?? with a good dayhike option? We'll have our 7month old baby girl, so nothing too rowdy. How about a good hike in Deso around 7-8 miles? Do I need reservations or is it mellow mid week?

my first thought is Fallen Leaf campground - its pretty popular, i have zero idea what its like mid-week. Glen Alpine Trailhead starts at the southern end of the lake that will take you towards Susie Lake, Heather Lakes, Lake Aloha. The other ones that come immediately to mind is Wrights lake camping > Twin Lakes Trail (if you are driving highway 50) or camping at Bayview > Velma Lakes Trail.
The Glen Alpine Trail is probably the most mellow, as there is no immediate vertical climb... -
try meeks bay. great hiking across the street, tahoe's clearest waters are right there. you might also find a spot at meeks bay resort but they have limited availability and you end up in a canyon of giant rv's. bliss is also good especially if you are in the beach campground. fallen leaf lake is also a good option. nice campground right in the middle of things but no beach. camp rich sucks balls imo.powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.Comment
