You're probably going to get different opinions based on what people like to ride, where they came from, etc. on the trail "situation." I've been frustrated with some of the trail work lately in that....it sucks, which is just my opinion. Also, my experience and opinions are pretty heavily colored by the fact that it's very different than when I moved here in 1993, some good, some bad.

Length of season is long if you are willing to ride the foothill trails, like March to December long in most years. The foothills are fun with the right frame of mind, but I stop riding them as soon as other stuff starts to open up.

Water sports...powered? The two nearby lakes are Willard and Pineview, both are obscenely crowded on weekends.

I'd be happy to chat with you on the phone at some point and answer any questions you have, and also explain why I've been frustrated with local trail networks and the work that has been done.

Ogden bike park is pretty great if you're into jumps. I haven't ridden much else up there.

Allegedly, Powder Mountain will be resuming their bike park operations this summer after shutting them down for last season if you are into flow DH lift-serviced stuff.

Elaborate on water sports (if Zion Zig Zag or TGapp didn't cover it already ). Human powered pursuits include SUP and kayaking on Causey Reservoir (non-motorized craft only). The Hen Tag section of the Weber River is a popular beginner whitewater kayak/raft//inner tube float nearby. There are a few seasonal whitewater kayak sections on the Ogden/S.Fork/Weber nearby as well that I can give more detail on if you are into such things.

Elaborate on water sports

Both powered (water skiing) and non powered (kayaking). 11 years ago, we came from Chicago to New Mexico.
Having both those sports available again would be a big plus.

Dave Goode moved there from Michigan, so there has to be a private ski site. Probably at his old house.

Ironically, my water ski bud that introduced us, also died in a private plane crash.

The city of Ogden, Mayor Godfrey at the time, gave him the 21st st pond. There are still pylons set up in it for slalom and you can camp with the homeless on the shore.

Coming from Los Alamos it will be a change. I would spend some time there before committing. There is some crime and homelessness. There are beautiful trails and more rugged mountains than the Jemez. The trail network around LA certainly has alot, and there are more crowds and alot more private land out here. It is colder here in the winter. The inversion isn't as bad in Ogden, but when we first came here it was in and caused us to go to Park City. You'd want to experience it so you know what it is before you buy in. There certainly are a heck of alot of restaurants and shopping and that sort of stuff that at least when I was in LA you had to drive to SantaFe or ABQ for. I'd Air B&B or get a fifth wheel and spend a few weeks in the summer and winter there to check it out. It isn't perfect, but it's got alot to offer.

You're right about the inversion, it's a huge bummer here. But also right that we don't have it nearly as bad as SLC. In this most recent event SLC had AQI numbers in the 150's and Ogden maxed out around 85. If you watch the PurpleAir map the inversion numbers get considerably worse south of I-84/Weber Canyon.

Also, I just did a quick month by month weather comparison with Los Alamos and it looks like our winters are really close temp wise, but our summers look considerably hotter.

Roxtar, a lot of the concerns about crowding become less of a concern if you're retired and can hit off peak times. For example, you could go water ski at Pineview at 8am on a Tuesday and avoid the weekend shitshow. Same with SUP at Causey, no way I'd go on a weekend but weekdays are mostly chill.

FTR Pineview had major issues with algal booms this summer. Not sure if this is something they will mitigate going forward but it was pretty gross from what I saw in pics.

I'm not a biker but my good buddy is and he seems to be somewhat content. There are certainly other places that have more diversity. I live up near the mountain and while there isn't much diversity it's incredible being so close to the trail system at a somewhat affordable price. I moved here in 2016 from Kodiak AK.

Ogden is also reasonably close to Bear Lake, which is a huge and pretty rad lake.

Sweet, I was a slalom competitor back in the day.
My wife has bugged me to get rid of the skis from time to time. I always held out hope.

Scroll to the bottom and see when and where the school MTB teams are practicing. Ignore this advice at your own peril. One team can completely fuck your ride around here, as opposed to somewhere like Draper or Park City where they have a greater density of trails and many are marked as one way.
