To use a hockey term: "he's squeezing the stick to hard"
When a hockey player hasn't scored in a long time, they try to hard to score and squeeze the stick and get stone hands. The hockey player needs to loosen the grip own their stick and let their talent take over.

Jasper is right up there in the mix:
    2nd in stage 5
2nd in stage 6 (then relegated)
    2nd in stage 8
He has a great leadout with Van der Poel (who has been quiet), it just looks like he is trying too hard to find the gap, jump the other sprinter, follow someone's wheel, when he should be trusting his talent to get him the finish line of the sprint, and sprint his own race.

Loved the gravel stage today. Lots of action and unpredictability throughout.

          This.
He’s been consistent just not yet the winner. The relegation (well earned IMV) probably cost him the green jersey this year. But there’s four more stages where he has a shot (10, 12, 13 & 16)

Yeah it was super fun to watch. Lots of parallel dramas going on. GC battles with flyers left and right. Jonas flatting and riding a team mates bike for 90km.

I was really hoping Gee would have taken the stage. So close.

Doesn’t sound like the leaders liked the stage though. I get it. It would suck to lose the tour because of a flat on the gravel.

What a great tour so far, the ASO must be stoked. Biniam winning his second stage in the Green Jersey beating Jasper, come on, that is awesome . Cav’s 35th, and the way he found space and kicked so hard, legend. Yesterday was excellent racing from the start. Way more memorable than last year.

Witness Vingo today - he would have been in a world of shit if he had to trade bikes with WVA rather than Tratnik.
It was their plan to have Tratnik right behind Jonas all day, specifically for that purpose.

GThomas says JVingegaard more likely 2024 tour winner than TPogacar
i'm not sure i see that at this moment

on the charge of not riding to win from Pogacar & Evenepoel, Vingegaard is showing his maturity & understanding in this race

Pogacar naturally wants to provoke him into mistakes. So of course he pushes that button...
Evenepoel is just too immature to see that over-aggressiveness will only assist the leader in isolating his rivals

I don’t see it either. Jonas couldn’t cover tadej move in the mountains. But it’s damn impressive he almost did considering he’s like 6 weeks out of hospital. Maybe he’s just holding back a little, to see how he feels before going super deep.

Itll be interesting to see how it plays out. I think he’s still a serious contender.

Y, if Tadej starts to crater under the pressure of the double, Jonas looks like he does have enough to capitalize. But it’s def not last year’s superteam

I’m thinking Jonas might drop the ‘I’m just happy to be here and not losing too badly etc’ to Fuk it, I’m in this and start smashing it. I hope so for the entertainment but I’m still a tadej fan.

Not having Sepp and Primoz setting an insane pace up the big mountains is a huge benefit to Tadej. He can more or less cruise along and attack when the opportunity is there.

                              Let’s see who cracks first
                              Pogi due to Giro
Vingo due to injury and lack of teammates
Remco from needlessly burning matches and lack of strong helpers

Maybe Remco gets into the sprint train tomorrow to show off his huge ballsack
