Bike industry tariffs

Is anyone surprised it is a cluster fuck that even businesses and their lawyers can't figure out how to navigate? -
Maybe if the price of new bikes becomes fully astronomical, my used bikes will be worth more than the pennies that I can currently sell them for.
(but this whole trade war is dumb and we're all fucked from like a hundred different directions)Comment

Back in early August, I bought a part for my Bosch ebike from a shop in Germany because I couldn't find it anywhere in the US, and even so, the price plus shipping to the US was cheaper (~$260) than any US stores were listing if they actually had any in stock (~$320-350 + tax). Keep in mind this was before the "de minimus tariff exemption" was rescinded. It was shipped UPS, and their idiot customs broker turned around and hit me with a bill for $150 plus a $20 service fee that I had to pay to get it released. I had to call / email 4 different departments at UPS to try and lodge an appeal, and when it finally made it to apparently the correct department, I got an automated response that said they had a multi-month backlog and were currently processing claims from May. I received the package a week before the exemption ended, and it was under $800, so it should never have had a tariff applied (regardless of whether it counted as coming from Germany or China). This whole thing is such a clusterfuck.
I just ordered $290 worth of parts from Germany that simply aren't available in the US right now, and am really curious to see what happens when they land in the US (this time shipped by FedEx).Comment

The same ones who were buying knock-off shit off Temu, while complaining how Chiner was taking all their jerbs.👍 1Comment

With FedEx, I tend to receive an invoice in the mail 5-7 days after delivery for the tariff balance, and a call from collections on the same day. Please share your experience, curious to hear if it is similar!👍 1Comment
