yes the weather teased but never delivered.
after seeing the largest patch of blue sky i texted gf to let her know the sun was coming out. minutes later the hail began (sky corn, yay)...and then it was just rainz
the skiing was great, so the low vis never really bothered me...well, until this morning when i imagined if was skiing today and headed for some beach-on-snow. next time.
ironically, the sun finally came out as i drove back down towards rutland, providing a beautiful drive home.
all in all, my best day skiing in fog/drizzle since about 5-6 years ago when i skiied laps on SS drenched, but warm, on hero snow. lots more options yesterday though.
downdraft, old supe, northstar and cascade all skiied really well...
my snow tires come off tomorrow.

One of these days I’m gonna get a K spring pass - best bang for buck out there if you can use it as much as passible. But, for now, back to the tee box.

well after yesterday it'll be easier to run into others.
what a shitty 'mostly sunny NOAA forecast' kind of day. had all the charm of a shitty december day after a bad temperature cycle, minus the low bar of just being glad to be skiing again.
birdman was there. but to completely cheapen the corn horn, he gave it a long, bellowing blow for his assembled fans, under damp, grey skies, ahead of a run over lunar bumps and icy troughs.
lots of coral reef and base ice made for an unpleasant start but ran into the hatter crew late in the day - themselves not yet having located any good snow, and combined we got in a bunch of very decent runs off the bubble, where the snow was pretty soft and the base ice mostly avoidable.
still awaiting my first sunny turns of the spring at K.
as i said last time: "next time"
maybe...Last edited by buckethead; 04-22-2024 at 05:47 PM.

Just as K started to soften under the sun, the clouds rolled in and refroze it. At least the tailgating lunch was solid. Nice to see a crew of mags skiing and riding together.
Oh right, pics won’t upload.

I was at Killington this weekend and the 2 days couldn't be more different. Saturday was great soft snow all over and mild temps. Yesterday was sugar at the bubble area as BH said above and mid February conditions elsewhere. No bumps on SS at 2:00 yesterday when we called it quits, most likely for the season as I've got a honey do list a mile long that I've been neglecting.
Wish I could've met up with y'all to show you my less than stellar skiing.

Anyone else just see the two large military prop planes flying right over the road between Wildcat at the ravine? Is that a usual thing?

I don't think too abnormal - F-16s and now F-35s I think will visit from VTANG Green Mountain Boys located in BurlingVegas.

Lots of low-level training routes in VT and NH. We see them zipping around Magic/Stratton/Bromley a fair bit also. Also the F-15s out of Cape Cod.
Most of the time, the F-35s head over and train in teh Upstates near Fort Drum but I'm sure they use all available training areas.

East Coast Roll Call 23/24_The Guns Are Blowing
Thanks guys. I’ve seen what I thought was jet and helicopter training in the past around here but these were large, older-style double prop planes and they seemed to be to be flying super low. By the time I got my phone out they were out of view behind the trees on the side of the trail and I couldn’t have been more than half way up Wildcat. Pretty psyched I was there to see it.

I’m settled back into life DownEast after my Winter lap of the West... I’d post some pics but that’s not a thing at the moment. If anyone is thinking of a trip to Acadia, hit me up... I got places for Mags to crash and boats in the water. Summer Mag gathering will probably be sometime in August. King Gizz and the Liz Wiz 8/20 in Portland and DSO on 8/23 in Portland… maybe 8/21-22 for a gathering in Acadia.
