Yes, Sunday was the last day of Headwall.
Thus it was fairly reasonable to make laps in Enchanted, Snag Cliffs, and the Saddle zone... since you could hop back on Headwall and get back in 15 minutes.
I didn't bother with that zone today without Headwall. Did two West Faces tho... I'd say it was still too firm at noon. Much better at 2:30.Still waiting...

Has anyone been over Carson pass lately? My wife wants to go for a hike (walk, not walk then ski) up there tomorrow (Sat 05/24), Caples Lake Trail to be specific. How has is melted out along 88?

I was there yesterday and there is still lots of snow at the pass. We skied Elephant's Back and were on snow almost all the way. The trail north from the snow park (to Meiss Meadow) is more south-facing and might be a bit clearer but was still pretty fat 2 wks ago. Something lower of fully south-facing would be a better bet. Hope Valley is thoroughly melted out.

Thanks. That pretty much what I figured.

I would assume Caples Lake Trail is a long way from ready. It's pretty dark a lot of the day

Surprisingly solid at OV today, even with a late 9:30 start.
Scored me some mid-angle sweet corn next to the Emigrant lift just after 10 and the stuff off the ridge between Sibo and GC was still soft and serviceable at 11:30.
Crowds were okay, but damn a lotta beginners and drunken fools were out, so head-on-a-swivel was the modus operandi for the day.

Said my goodbyes yesterday...
Did a couple last hikes to KT, and I can officially say I don't have a strong urge to do it again.
Great season. I'll take another just like it next year.Still waiting...

The hike from Sibo to KT is real. It's easy to forget how much lower the Saddle is compared to the top station.
I opted to drive to Mammoth instead with Sonora Pass open. Plenty of good looking corn up there.
I feared the OV crowds over this weekend. And wanted a bit more terrain to play on.
Talked with a ski racer kid from OV on the gondola. He kept saying how much better Palisades was than Mammoth. He told be about a chute off Broken Arrow that was as narrow as the Gondi car and then how much better the grooming was.
For Memorial Day weekend skiing tho, gotta say, Mammoth wins even if just because I can ski right back to my car.

Had some fun on Saturday at PTOV with my kids. Ran into Mr. Alpine Meadows and Dookey...it seemed that we were on the same schedule of following the sunniest aspects early on. Overall, starting on Sibo was pretty enjoyable, especially the center groomer down to Gold Coast. Migrated over to Granite where the groomer skied well but pretty suncuppy off piste. Lapped all of Shirley and of course, had to lap the long wiggle next to Shirley Chutes...which may have been my best wiggle experience to date. The kids and I skied mountain run which was...well...interesting, but at least they kept the option open. While my kids hammered cookies at Wildflour, I did one final Palisades to Slot to Chute 75. All were enjoyable with upper half of Chute 75 being most enjoyable IMHO.
Skied Mammoth yesterday and had a blast. Sucks they are closing as we slayed great top to bottom corn groomers and soft steep bumps on Climax and on Chair 23. The negative? It was way more crowded than expected. Of course, we got there early and bailed around 12:30pm when most of the mountain was getting pretty sticky and slow anyway.

Seemed like a lot less kooks on the hills at OV today.
And the snow was the creamiest it’s been the last four days.
Started out ripping “Mules Ear,” which was sweet corduroy corn. Then I rode Baileys Beach (because it and Mountain Meadow were the only two chairs I hadn’t ridden all spring) and schussed the bonafide WROD that was “Lupine.”
From there it was down the still firm and crunchy “Marillac’s” to the Shirley lift and then back to the softer snow off Sibo. Did a few off that before a coupla more in/around “Shirley Bowl” before lapping GC. Next I headed back to Sibo for some “Reverse Traverse” to “Hogsback” laps, finally culminating with a “National” to “Reverse Traverse” to
“Cornice Bowl”/“Classic” area and then down what was left of lower “Mountain Run” to end the day.
8:30 - 1:30 with no breaks.
Pretty damn bueno end to lift-served.
Switching gears to patch-skiing next weekend!Last edited by dookeyXXX; 05-27-2024 at 08:30 PM.

Wow... Sounds like a very solid last weekend was had by many!
Nice choice to ski C2 for the final hurrah, @dookey. That's probably skiing better than KT at this point. People have been making that look fun.
I played 18 today and had a blast. Spring is fun.Still waiting...
